Frozen hashbrowns? I am so excited to make this! My friends mom used to make it and I've always wanted the recipe.

I am going to fix this tonight with the roasted chicken recipe!!

i have a vegetarian friend, in place of the cream of chicken should i use another cream or onion or a different soup?

Mallory Lynne

I would either use another can of the onion soup or cream of mushroom! Enjoy!

Yum!!! I am making this sometime this week! I'll post back with how easy and delicious it was!

It really needs to bake for 2 hours? That seems way too long.

Mallory Lynne

It actually is all cooked so it doesn't really need to cook for 2 hours but you want it to cook till its bubbly. The longer it cooks tho the favors blend together and it tastes a lot better. Hope this helps!

Trying this out for supper, but putting chicken in with it for a one-pan meal. I like the fact I can have it in the oven and visit with my guests and I'm not rushed to get everything done.

I've had this recipe for decades and it's best if you use corn flakes. I put them in a bowl and drizzle melted butter over them then spread them over the dish. I normally only bake it for 45min - 1 hr. And for a slightly lower fat version, use Simply Potatoes - just make sure to add a little extra salt. Lastly, I'd recommend using extra sharp cheddar cheese like Crackle Barrel.

where do you get the cream of onion? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Mallory Lynne

Cream of onion soup is from the brand Campbells. It should be where all of the flavors are... there are a ton. If you cant find it, ask someone at the store and they are usually really helpful.

I couldn't find Cream of Onion at my grocery store either. I just googled it and walmart came up. Turns out they also have a "check store availability" and I was able to find it nearby!
Here's the link for anyone that wants to check - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Campbells-Cream-of-Onion-Condensed-Soup-10.75-oz/10321684

Have you ever not added the onions of corn flakes? I do something similiar to this and it's just cheese on top. I'm very interested in trying this! Thanks!

Lana

Should the hashbrowns be frozen or thawed??

Anonymous

Made this with some chicken, broccoli, and spinach added in for a 1 pot meal (had to make sure we got some veggies in). It was delicious.

I have made this forever and never a drop left in the dish. You must cook it for 2 hours or it's just not done. (cold in the center)

I tried this over a month ago. I used too much soup. Tonight I am trying it with just the cream of chicken. Didn't have corn flakes last time either so I tried corn chex. Not as good as corn flakes!

I'm really excited to try this!! Just curious, do you always use the grated hashbrowns rather than the cubed ones? And do you let them thaw or just use them frozen? Thanks!

Mallory Lynne

I have always used Shredded but one time i used cubed! It will be the same! Also I usually thaw them out or just put the hash-browns in the fridge and when I'm ready to place them in the pan there are not as frozen. Make sure you are writing comments on the new blog where the new recipe is.

Thanks for following!!!
